Formatting your MySpace Page

Using HTML to change the Look and Feel of Web Pages

We look at HTML, the programming language of the web, and how it can be used on social networking sites, such as MySpace.

MySpace has to be one of the best Web 2.0 offerings. Social networking in general, the interconnectedness of web citizens, is a wonderful tool, but MySpace has taken it a step further. It's so popular, that even before people start connecting, they want to customize their own little piece of the web, because they know that someone will see it.

But how do you do that?

The answer is - HTML. The language of the web. A system of 'tags' which change the way that the browser displays your page to a visitor/viewer/friend.

Some HTML tags are allowed on MySpace, some are not. In deciding whether a specific tag might be supported, ask yourself what it could do to disturb the MySpace system. Clearly JavaScript (or any other browser based scripting) might do that, as would anything that interfered with the CSS design of the presentation layer provided by MySpace.

If this sounds like Greek, then perhaps we should start at the beginning.

Happy Web Programming
